Juan Chacón is an architect, researcher and educator graduated in ETSAM, Superior Technical School of Architecture in Madrid. He is a co-founder of Zuloark (2001) an open office of distributed architectural, urban and regional design. Also co-founder and member of meta-studio Zoohaus (2007) and part of the open-source network Inteligencias Colectivas (2010). He has been developing his architectural practices in Berlin since 2009 by crossing disciplines connected to space, city and landscape through various making, teaching and researching methodologies. His work explores new models of practice and transactionality that could engage research, design and alternative educational methodologies, heuristically. In the recent years, from 2018, Juan has co-founded the initiative Tirilab together with Christina Serifi which explores multi-cultural heritage related to local technologies, gastronomy and culture specifics from rural communities in northern Greece and also part of “Making Futures Bauhaus +” research team during 2019, operates as an experimental research unit from the University of Arts of Berlin that advances future paths for architectural practice and education. Juan has received international awards (Prix Ars Electronica-Golden Nica, Spanish Architecture and Urbanism Biennial, “Arquia/proxima” Prize, ONU Dubai International Best Practice Award). He has been Associate Researcher at UDK Berlin and invited as a guest associate teacher at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia (2014-2017), Technische Universität in Berlin(2015-2021) and San Jorge University in Zaragoza (2010-2013) where he organized lecture series and workshops. Further, his work has been exhibited in several renowned cultural institutions: MoMA New York, Akademie der Kunste Berlin, Lisbon Architecture Triennale and Matadero Madrid and published in various books.
